Hablo.pro: a conversational language tutor
A language tutor I built and launched (168 upvotes on Product Hunt), now discontinued. My first time building real-time voice agents.
Hablo.pro is a real-time voice language tutor I built and launched. It's discontinued now, but it became #1 on Product Hunt in the education category. It was my first experience building voice agents. I sold like around ~$50 worth of subscriptions.
The idea
A language tutor you learn from by talking to it. Instead of drills, you have a conversation, and the tutor helps you along the way. You can still visit hablo.pro or the Product Hunt launch to see what it was about.
The launch
I launched it on Product Hunt and it picked up 168 upvotes. It was fun to get some first customers thanks to this. I also learned some SEO thanks to this project.
Where it led
This was my first experience building conversational agents, which is helpful for Conversatio, the interview simulator I'm building now.
What I learned
- How to build conversational agents end to end (WebRTC) and how expensive they are. To save on costs, for Conversatio I decided to build a custom stt > llm > tts pipeline.
- How to launch a product publicly and read what the response is telling you. I should have pushed the product with more distribution. I uploaded some videos on TikTok and Instagram, which then became a page where I uploaded explanatory videos on AI.
